Project Update - June 2024

11 June 2024

  • New CRG meets for first time

CleanCo has formed this CRG to give Ipswich residents an on-going voice in the site's development over the next decade and beyond.

The CRG is a diverse group of people, ranging in age from 15 to 80+, and bringing a wide range of life experience and local knowledge.

  • Big battery project powering along

Construction of Ipswich's first big battery at CleanCo's Swanbank site is moving along at a steady pace.

CleanCo is partnering with Tesla and Yurika to deliver the 250MW/500MWh battery as part of the site's transition to becoming a Clean Energy Hub. The battery will be built on the site of the former Swanbank B coal-fired power station.

Remediation of some areas of contaminated land has been done to prepare the site, including removing giant footings from the days of the coal-fired power station

  • Ash dam update

CleanCo is continuing to progress plans for the environmental rehabilitation of the ash dam at Swanbank, a legacy of the coal-fired power station that operated there.

Preliminary design investigations for the remediation have determined there is insufficient historical data to understand the hydrogeological influences on the stored ash.

CleanCo will be installing additional monitoring bores and activate a monitoring program for the coming 18 months to help inform the future remediation design.

  • CleanCo cleans up

A Christmas tree, a pram and a stack of tyres were among the items collected at Swanbank for Clean Up Australia Day 2024.

Site staff and their families members combed the area around Swanbank Lake, the train station and the lookout for rubbish - they collected enough to fill two utes!
