Energy generation and storage projects

CleanCo is progressing a range of energy generation and storage projects as part of the Swanbank site's development as a Clean Energy Hub.

In 2023 CleanCo invited the energy market to put forward proposals for innovative, technically and commercially read clean energy technology with a capacity of up to 400MW. These new technologies would complement the battery already planned for the Swanbank site.

The NAS Battery is the first project to progress to a feasibility stage as part of the EOI process. Other projects are currently being evaluated.


  • Swanbank Battery

    CleanCo is building Ipswich's first big battery! The 250MW/500MWh battery is being built on the site of the now demolished coal-fired B station. The battery is expected to be commissioned in mid-2025.
