Tilapia on the hook at Swanbank
18 February 2025
Tilapia's time was up at Swanbank on 16 February when CleanCo hosted a Pest Fishing Competition. More than 70 people of all ages joined in the competition to catch the invasive species.
CleanCo collaborated with the Somerset and Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association to hold the event.
CleanCo operates a gas-fired power station at Swanbank, and the cooling water dam is an operational feature of the site. More commonly known as Swanbank Lake, the dam is a popular recreational spot. Unfortunately it is infested with Tilapia and Banded Grunter.
More than 100 Tilapia were caught in just a few hours on Sunday.
Prizes were presented for biggest fish caught, smallest fish, most fish and funniest looking fish.
The competition was a great opportunity for people of all ages to spend time together whilst participating in a positive environmental activity to improve the water quality of Swanbank Lake.
